Two dead following yacht fire

Two people have died following a yacht fire at a North Geelong jetty on Wednesday night.

Arson Squad detectives had yet to determine the exact circumstances of the fire this morning and had established a crime scene, Victoria Police said.

Emergency services rushed to the ramp near Mackey Street after reports of a fire about 6.30pm.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze and located two people, who are yet to formally identified, dead at the scene.

Water Police and Search and Rescue officers were this morning working to ensure the safety of the vessel during the Arson Squad investigation, a police spokesperson said.

Police urged anyone with information to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
