Workers at Alcoa’s Anglesea power plant mine are furious the complex could close if it remains unsold by year’s end, according to their union.

Australian Workers Union (AWU) state secretary Ben Davis said Alcoa had assured the 80 staff their jobs were safe, telling them the plant was separate to a review that would close the company’s Point Henry operations, costing 800 jobs.

Victoria’s largest free multicultural street festival is back for 2024 when the 42nd edition of Pako Festa once again takes over Geelong West’s Pakington Street.

The annual event, which draws crowds of more than 100,000 and is organised by Cultura, will fill the iconic thoroughfare this Saturday (February 24) with music, colour, costumes and movement, while community food stalls will offer a taste of the different cultures that make up our city.
