Mini golf is coming to Steampacket Gardens for a day of fun and community sport.
Golf Australia will host the free community activation event on Saturday, January 25, from 10am to 4pm, featuring nine playable holes and a hitting bay.
Victoria senior relationship officer Jake Cole-Sinclair said the activation was a chance for the Geelong community to get excited for the upcoming Vic Open Golf from February 6 to 9.
“Being a golfer doesn’t mean you’ve got to go and play on a golf court; it’s any format of golf anywhere and anytime,” he said.
“We’re trying to provide an opportunity to get some golf clubs in the hands of people and families coming through Steampacket Gardens.
“I’m pretty competitive, so I like the fact that it’s something that I’m able to enjoy but be competitive with. But it’s also just the fact that it’s so simple and can be so much fun.”
Mr Cole-Sinclair said the free event aimed to help break down some of the “stigma and barriers associated with golf”.
“For some people, it’s a different activity that they haven’t or may not have been able to do, or something that isn’t going to cost them,” he said.
“As long as somebody can get themselves to Steampacket Gardens, we can modify it or make the game work to the best of our ability for anybody.
“The fact is that you can go out and play mini golf with family and friends of all ages regardless of ability… and we’re fortunate to be able to have a portable mini golf setup that can come to the community.”
