Ward ‘ambassadors’ on long march

Residents will march under ward flags on Geelong’s 80km “extreme arts journey of discovery”, City Hall has announced.
The “flag ambassadors” will be the vanguard of the M~M2016 walk over two days in May.
The walk showcased the Geelong region “like no other”, said councillor Andy Richards.
“Walking 80km through greater Geelong is unlike anywhere else – its diversity is spectacular, taking in rural and mountainous regions, industrial and commercial precincts, urban and residential areas and inland and coastal waters.”
The ambassadors will begin their walk at the You Yangs, cross Geelong’s industrial heartland at night and arrive in the city centre in time for a Geelong After Dark arts event.
At dawn the next day they will follow the Barwon River to reach its mouth at Barwon Heads by sunset.
City Hall said route stages would vary from 3km to 14km, with the “several ambassadors” allowed to share the flag-carrying role.
Ambassadors could be nominated for significant contributions to their municipality or neighbourhood, the City said.
Nominations are open at a Join the Walk section of mountaintomouth.com.au.
