Keeping it local

Motor City Music festival is all about Geelong, so keeping it local is a key part of the philosophy behind the event.
An unabashed fan of local products, MCMF co-founder Hugo T Armstrong was keen to have local brewer Furphy involved.
And the iconic Geelong beer brand will be there front and centre with a beer truck doing the rounds of the festival ground filled with the clean, crisp ale now brewed at Little Creatures.
Local sales manager Sacha Stewart said it was a Geelong beer supporting a Geelong event.
“This is the third year of the festival and we are watching it grow,” Mr Stewart said.
“Motor City Music festival continues to go from strength to strength and likewise the local community has embraced Furphy beer.”
There are plenty of other well-known Geelong names on the support honour roll for the festival, with Jayco sponsoring the camping facilities and Specialty Coffee Roasters offering a beer and bean pop up café.
Geelong Travel, Brax, the Blues Train and Bay City Events are right behind it as well.
The festival has shown its local heart by supporting long-time and important Geelong charity Karingal.
It’s all part of the festival’s plan to keep the economic benefits generated by the event in Geelong as much as possible.
It’s that philosophy that has attracted local businesses Geelong Fireworks, Hume Protection, Pistol Petes, the Wooden Boat Festival, Pattons Event Hire, European Affair, Events Geelong, K Rock and even Member for Bellarine Lisa Neville.
“Priority has been given wherever we can to local suppliers,” Mr Armstrong said.
“The festival’s guitar logo includes a motor, International Harvester and the biggest windmill in the Southern Hemisphere, which is actually on site at the showgrounds – donated and restored by the McCann family of Geelong Cement fame.
“I’ve tried to source everything, right through to the toilet hire, from Geelong and the Surf Coast wherever possible.”
