Fires gig success inspires another big, fat fundraiser

Jessica Benton
A MUSIC-INSPIRED fundraising group has formed on the Bellarine Peninsula to stage charity events.
Boss Brothers Entertainment plans to run an ongoing series of benefit gigs after its first event, February’s Fight Fire With Rock, raised more than $22,500 for victims of Victoria’s Black Saturday bushfires.
Boss Brothers’ Mitch Knapton said the success of Fight Fire With Rock proved the organisation had developed a “good formula” for fundraisers.
Boss Brothers was now preparing an event titled Save the Big Fat Whales to raise money for Sea Shepherd Foundation, Mr Knapton said.
A variety of local bands and DJs were already on the bill for the concert.
“If this one works well, Sea Shepherd said it might become a platform for a national tour,” Mr Knapton said.
A following benefit gig would raise awareness of teenage suicide, he said.
Save the Big Fat Whales is on June 27 at Barwon Heads Hotel.
Mr Knapton said tickets would cost $20 at the door.
