Drysdale ‘roads’ study

By JOHN VAN KLAVEREN

LONG-suffering Drysdale and Clifton Springs motorists have a chance to push their case to VicRoads in a new transport survey.
Community organisations have pointed to congestion at the Jetty Rd roundabout and the need for a Drysdale bypass for several years.
VicRoads regional director William Tieppo said the survey would feed information into a Drysdale road network planning study.
“It’s essential the community’s thoughts are captured. We want to know what they see as the key issues and what is important to them,” Mr Tieppo said.
“We (will) use the results to prioritise project objectives and narrow down options, which will then be further investigated and developed.”
Mr Tieppo said the study would lead to the development of a business case to improve transport around Drysdale.
“It will take about 12 months to complete the study and prepare a business case for improvements and it is our intention to come back to the community with our results and possible options,” he said.
The survey is online at vicroads.vic.gov.au and available at Springdale Neighbourhood Centre.
VicRoads has also announced the closure of the Great Ocean Road for four days from 24 August for essential upgrade works to replace a large drainage pipe under the road.
Mr Tieppo said the iconic tourist road would be closed between Wye River and Kennett River.
“We’re aware this is going to mean a significant challenge for the local community and drivers travelling between Apollo Bay and Lorne.
“While closing the road is unavoidable, VicRoads will run 24-hour shifts to endeavour work gets done as quickly and as safely as possible.
“It’s important to make sure we reach as many people as possible so no one is surprised and can plan their journey in advance. We encourage the entire community to spread the word.”
