A TAXI driver was almost six times over the blood-alcohol limit when police caught him at Bellbrae, police have alleged.
A Victoria Police spokesperson said the driver’s licence was “immediately suspended”.
Police arrived on the Great Ocean Road from Geelong around 5.10am Wednesday in response to reports of a taxi driving erratically, the spokesperson said.
“Waurn Ponds members located the taxi after it allegedly hit a sign and burst a tyre.
“The male driver was requested to attend the local police station for a breath test where he returned an evidentiary sample of .279 per cent.”
The spokesperson said police expected to charge the driver with “numerous traffic offences including driving under the influence”.
