Charges over bottle and screwdriver carjackings

A Norlane man faces several charges after allegedly using a bottle and a screwdriver to threaten two women in two separate carjackings in an hour yesterday.

The 31-year-old man threatened a female driver with a bottle on Moorabool St in central Geelong about 7am and stole her black Holden Commodore, police alleged.

About 7.30am in North Geelong, the car collided with a pedestrian, who suffered minor injuries, police said.

The man then allegedly dumped the car on Wilsons Rd before carjacking a second woman on the Bellarine Hwy in Newcomb just before 8am, police said.

The man allegedly threatened her with a screwdriver and assaulted her before stealing her blue Mazda hatch.

Police arrested the Norlane man in a carpark at North Geelong Railway Station about 8.30am.

They had since charged him with two counts of aggravated carjacking, two counts of motor vehicle theft, recklessly causing injury, conduct endangering a person and unlicensed driving, a Victoria Police spokesperson said.

The man was scheduled to appear in Geelong Magistrates’ Court today.
