Geelong Chamber of Commerce is delighted to announce that Deakin University will become the new naming rights sponsor of the Geelong Business Excellence Awards in 2018.
To be now known as the Deakin University Geelong Business Excellence Awards, the announcement was made this evening at the 2017 awards gala presentation dinner at The Pier Geelong.
Powercor has been involved with the prestigious Business Awards for the past 12 years, including the last five as naming rights sponsor. The company has played a key role in raising the Awards profile in the region’s business community.
Powercor corporate affairs general manager Melissa O’Neill says the awards play an important role in highlighting the outstanding work of local businesses in the region.
“Powercor has been very proud of our association with the awards which showcase the best and brightest businesses in Victoria so it is bittersweet for us to pass the baton to Deakin. We wish Deakin and the Geelong Business Excellence Awards all the very best,” Ms O’Neill says.
Deakin Vice-Chancellor Professor Jane den Hollander AO says the university is delighted to sponsor the 2018 awards.
“The awards provide an important opportunity to recognise and celebrate the business excellence that exists in our wider Geelong region, and to acknowledge the best of the best,” Professor den Hollander says.
“Deakin is proud to call Geelong home and we are passionate about supporting the communities we serve, especially through driving innovation and productivity. Deakin is a key player in the future economic, social and cultural growth of our region, particularly in preparing graduates for the jobs and skills of the future.
“And sponsorship of the 2018 business excellence awards fits perfectly with these core drivers.”
Geelong Chamber of Commerce chief executive officer Bernadette Uzelac thanked Powercor for its support of the Awards.
Ms Uzelac says the chamber is excited to begin a new partnership with Deakin University.
“On behalf of our the Geelong Chamber of Commerce, we thank Powercor for their association with Australia’s oldest continuously running business awards and we appreciate their support to ensure the awards remain the biggest event on the region’s business calendar,” Ms Uzelac says.
“It’s fitting that this year’s awards attracted record entries and we are already planning to build on that success with our new naming rights sponsor Deakin University.”
