HE MAY still be trying to get his name printed on Fantail wrappers but country music icon Adam Harvey knows he’s on to something good.
Born and raised in Geelong, Harvey said he would tour the region with friend and fellow country music artist Troy Cassar-Daley with a play list of traditional country songs for all ages.
Harvey is one of Australia’s most accomplished country music performers, with a career spanning 10 years and awards including seven Golden Guitars.
Recently back from a 90-show tour with Beccy Cole, Harvey said he was looking forward to hitting the road again with Cassar-Daley.
“Troy came around to my place the other month and we wrote some songs together and he ended up singing on my latest album,” Harvey told the Independent.
“Troy likes all the old favorite country songs like I do, so people can expect to see us perform music by the likes of Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Willie Nelson and Slim Dusty as well as some originals.”
Harvey described country music as unique for its songs about life rather than just love and heartache.
“People often need to escape and forget their problems and I think that’s what makes country music popular with fans,” he said.
“I think we have as much fun as the crowds do.”
Despite growing up in Geelong, Harvey said he always remained nervous about homecoming performances.
Geelong was the only town where nerves plagued his pre-performance preparation, he revealed.
“I always get very nervous when I play in Geelong because I’ve got the family here and the old home crowd. I’ve got to make sure every one leaves happy or they’ll be on the phone to my mum,” Harvey laughed.
“I do plan on getting Troy in a Cats jumper, though, and teaching him the theme song so he fits in when we come down.
“I’ll also have to take him out to mum and dad’s place and put him to work.”
Adam Harvey and Troy Cassar-Daley will perform at Geelong Performing Arts Centre on November 10.
