Arts grants now open

Local artists and creatives can now apply for grants from the City of Greater Geelong to help further their professional development.

Applications are now open for the City’s Artists and Creatives Professional Development Grants, closing at 5pm on 16 February.

The grants are available to Greater Geelong residents whose primary practice is within the arts, creative and cultural sector, whether as a sole trader or working for a not-for-profit organisation.

Applicants may request up to $2000 in funding, from a total pool of $15,000 available, to help pay for expenses for participating in activities such as workshops, mentoring, residencies or conferences.

Expenses can include travel, accommodation, registration fees and other incidentals.

Councillor Eddy Kontelj, chair of the Arts and Culture, Hospitality and Live Entertainment portfolio, encouraged the community to take advantage of the funding on offer.

“These grants support the creative talent that makes Greater Geelong such a vibrant place,” he said.

“If you want to grow your creative career, now is the time to apply.”

The professional development grants are part of the council’s Creative City Community Grants program, which also includes Creative Seed, Arts Projects and Creative Commissions grants.

Mayor Stretch Kontelj said the grants program played an important role in strengthening the region’s creative and cultural landscape.

“As a UNESCO City of Design, Greater Geelong is a region that values our creative industries,” he said.

“The talent among our local creatives is impressive, so it’s exciting to be able to provide support for career growth and development.”
