Balancing act at centre’s golf day

REHABILITATION patients will get back on their feet thanks to the efforts of players in a charity golf day next year.
The Independent’s annual McKellar Centre Charity Golf Day will raise money for the region’s peak rehabilitation and aged care centre to buy a portable machine for diagnosing balance disorders.
The golf day raised $32,000 in 2007 for a similar fixed machine at the centre but the portable capacity of the VSR Sport would help staff treat patients with limited mobility.
McKellar Centre’s Kerry O’Sullivan said balance disorders affected “everyone at some stage in their life”, with causes ranging from simple ear infections through to serious injuries.
“The VSR Sport will be an important adjunct to the existing equipment,” he said.
“Like the Balance Master, it stemmed from NASA research and product development and provides clinicians with extremely detailed information.”
Organisers are seeking entries for the 18th annual McKellar Centre Charity Golf Day at 13th Beach on Friday, April 5.
The 18-hole Ambrose competition begins with an 8am shotgun start and ends with players enjoying a two-course lunch and entertainment in the 13th Beach clubhouse.
Individual, pair or team entries also include golf carts and on-course catering.
A range of sponsorship packages are available, with event supporters enjoying generous recognition in the Independent and at the golf day.
