Having a legally binding will is one of the most important steps you can take to protect your loved ones and ensure your wishes are carried out.
Without one, intestacy laws decide how your estate is divided after you die, which may not reflect your intentions.
Andrew Alexander of Geelong Legal said too many people delay making a will.
“Making a will provides peace of mind, knowing your wishes are clear and that things will be simpler for loved ones,” he said.
“It’s about having confidence that the plans you make today will help avoid confusion or conflict in the future.”
Wills should also be regularly updated as circumstances change.
“Major life events such as marriage, divorce, the birth of children, or significant financial changes are all key times to review your will,” Mr Alexander said.
“If circumstances change and your will doesn’t reflect that, your loved ones may face unnecessary stress or disputes.”
Geelong Legal assists families and individuals across the Geelong region with preparing and updating wills.
“Our role is to make sure your will is clear, unambiguous, and legally binding, giving you peace of mind that your affairs are in order,” Mr Alexander said.
