Menegola signs on until 2023

Geelong midfielder Sam Menegola has agreed to a contract extension until the end of the 2023 season.

Menegola enjoyed his best season at the Cats so far in 2020, finishing sixth in the Carji Greeves Medal and earning selection into the All-Australian 40 player squad.

The former Hawk played every game in 2020 and averaged 21 disposals per game, finishing fourth in the AFL for both possessions (445) and marks (188).

“Sam is an important player for us and he has turned himself into a player who is strong inside the contest as a midfielder and hard-running on the outside as an influential winger,” Geelong’s football general manager Simon Lloyd said.

“Sam works as hard as any player and his dedication to his fitness and his craft has paid off. Sam has exceptional skills and bravery and is a professional in every sense of the word.

“It’s great for all parties that we have been able to agree to this extension.”

Menegola has played 86 games and kicked 64 goals with the Cats since moving over from Hawthorn in 2016.
