Cats lock away key quartet

Geelong has secured the talents of star midfielder Georgie Prespakis for another four years.

Prepakis was locked away under a long-term deal along with Nina Morrison and Becky Webster, who also re-signed for four seasons.

The Cats have now recommitted all but one from this year’s preliminary final team against Brisbane, with Renee Garing retiring after the 2023 season.

Forwards Chloe Scheer and Jackie Parry will remain in the Hoops until at least the end of 2026, with the pair inking three-year contract extensions alongside speedy winger Mikayla Bowen.

Experienced quartet Amy McDonald, Chantel Emonson, Julia Crockett-Grills and Georgie Rankin have signed multiyear deals.

The remaining 13 players will remain in the Hoops until at least the end of the 2024 season.

In addition to the 26 players that have recommitted, the Cats welcomed Bella Smith from the Brisbane Lions in the trade period last week who has signed a one-year contract.

Geelong Cats assistant general manager of football Brett Johnson said it was great to retain the core of the list heading into 2024.

“All players in our squad last year played a key role in our success, and to be able to retain the majority of our list is exciting and we can’t wait to continue to build next year,” Johnson said.

“Ten players have committed to the Club longer term which has enabled us to lock away a strong core group of players that can continue to lead our program forward from both a team performance and culture perspective.”
