A man’s attempt to get off a littering fine has seen him hit with legal costs more than double the original fine.
The Hopetoun Park man was fined by the EPA after a witness reported seeing his female passenger dropping baby wipes from his car in a carpark in Wallington in January last year.
The EPA issued the man with the fine and he decided not to nominate his female passenger as being responsible and instead challenged the fine in court.
The matter was recently heard in the Geelong Magistrate’s Court.
The court found the charge proven but did not order a conviction.
The man was ordered to pay the $330 fine, along with the EPA’s legal costs of $855.47.
