A person has been struck by a train at Little River, according to V/Line, with police closing the line following the incident.

“Coaches are replacing trains between Wyndham Vale and Waurn Ponds due to a person struck by a train at Little River,” a V/Line spokesperson said.

“Passengers are advised to board replacement coaches, with trains continuing to operate between Wyndham Vale and Southern Cross with some delays.”

The spokesperson expected the closure to affect the line in both directions until at least 2pm as the coroner and police attend the incident.

V/Line announced online that it had cancelled the 11.50am and 13.24pm South Geelong- Southern Cross services.

The Department of Transport advised passengers to check station platform displays and listen for announcements, and to allow additional time for their journey.

“We are sorry for the delay to your journey today,” the department said in a statement.

“Coaches will replace V/Line services along part of the Geelong and Warrnambool lines, due to a police incident in the Little River area.

“Motorists should be vigilant for extra buses and pedestrians around stations on the Geelong line.

“This closure is under Victoria Police control and services will only resume when investigations are complete and it’s safe to do so.

“Our signals team is monitoring conditions and will adjust traffic lights as needed to assist with bus movements.”
