Six new cases prior to snap lockdown

Victoria has recorded four new locally-acquired COVID-19 cases plus another two acquired overseas yesterday, bringing the state’s total active cases to 39.

The increase is lower than the 12 new locally-acquired cases that the Department of Health recorded on Wednesday.

That increase and the state’s latest outbreak prompted acting premier James Merlino to declare a snap lockdown until next Thursday.

The increase of six cases occurred yesterday prior to the new restrictions taking effect.

State government also yesterday announced the opening of vaccinations to Victorians aged 40 and over yesterday.

The Department of Health received 47,462 test results yesterday, while 17,223 vaccine doses were administered, bringing the total doses administered to 421,634.
