One new Geelong case as state records another record increase

Geelong recorded one new COVID-19 case yesterday amid the single largest daily increase in Victoria since the pandemic began.

Greater Geelong’s active cases remained on 31 yesterday, the same as on Saturday, according to the Department of Health and Human Services.

But cases since the pandemic began increased from 106 to 107, meaning Geelong recorded one additional case yesterday but one active case had also recovered.

Geelong recorded three new cases in total over the weekend.

Surf Coast Shire’s active cases remained on four yesterday while another person recovered in Golden Plains Shire, bringing its confirmed active cases down to five.

Colac Otway Shire currently has 50 active cases after recording three new cases yesterday, with one active case recovering on Saturday.

The department has so far linked 47 cases to an outbreak at Colac’s Australian Lamb Company Abattoir.

But state-wide the department recorded yet another record increase in cases yesterday.

Victoria had 532 new COVID-19 cases with 17 reclassified, largely due to duplication, increasing the total by 515 to 8696.

Of the new cases 154 are linked to outbreaks or complex cases, and 378 are under investigation.

Another six Victorians have died from COVID-19, with five related to aged care facilities, bringing the state’s death toll to 77.

The deaths include a man in his 50s, a woman and a man in their 70s, a woman and a man in their 80s and a woman in her 90s.

Victoria has 4542 active cases with 1308 cases from unknown transmission.

Currently 245 Victorians are in hospital after contracting COVID-19 with 44 in intensive care, while 3817 people have recovered.

Of the total cases, 8086 are from metropolitan Melbourne, while 463 are from regional Victoria.

More than 1,518,000 tests have been processed to date.

Cases currently linked to public housing in North Melbourne, Flemington and Carlton are as follows:

303 cases are residents of various public housing towers in North Melbourne and Flemington.

66 cases are residents of various public housing towers in Carlton.

82 cases have been linked to Estia Aged Care Facility in Ardeer

77 cases have been linked to Epping Gardens Aged Care in Epping

62 cases have been linked to Menarock Life Aged Care Facility in Essendon

53 cases have been linked to Glendale Aged Care Facility in Werribee

57 cases have been linked to Kirkbrae Presbyterian Homes in Kilsyth

50 cases have been linked to Estia Aged Care Facility in Heidelberg
