New pathway for Torquay

A new footpath is coming to Torquay to help close the missing line in the shared path network while improving pedestrian and cyclist access.

Works to build a footpath on the west side of the Surf Coast Highway started this month to connect Baines Crescent to Bristol Road, with the whole project expected to be completed by December this year.

Councillor Rebecca Bourke said the state government, through Regional Development Victoria, contributed $100,000 through its Council Support Package to develop the footpath.

“We’re excited to be improving access and connectivity in this busy part of Torquay. This footpath will provide a safer, more direct route for locals and visitors alike,” she said.

“We appreciate the support that the Victorian government has shown with funding for this pathway. With their support we can continue to provide these safe connections for the community.”

The project will be delivered in three stages, with the first stage having started on May 19 and focused on the path stretching from north of Saint Therese Church to the caravan park.

Stage two of the project will feature construction of the path from the caravan park to Baines Crescent, with stage three connecting the path in front of the caravan park.

Some existing driveways along the route will be affected during construction, with council’s contractor working closely with affected residents and businesses to minimise disruptions.
