The Geelong Region Cancerians will host a virtual trivia night this week to raise money for vital research into cancer and its treatments.

The group was formed by local Phillipa Challis after she survived her own uterine cancer diagnosis, as a platform to raise awareness for cancer detection and support research.

With the pandemic forcing the group to cancel most of its usual fundraising activities over the past two years, it has decided to head online, with a trivia night fundraiser on Friday.

Ms Challis said the group was encouraging the community to form teams and join in from their comfort of their home, to take part in the trivia challenge covering questions from 1970s through to the 2000s.

The trivia starts from 7.30pm on Friday, running until about 9pm.
