A four-hour police pursuit across Geelong that began at Corio ended about 40km away at Inverleigh on Monday afternoon.
Police arrested the male driver after chasing him down in a paddock, a short time after arresting another three occupants at Waurn Ponds.
The chase began earlier that day following reports of a stolen black Holden Commodore ute driving on the wrong side of Princes Hwy at Corio about 9.30am.
Police alleged the car had been stolen during an aggravated carjacking on Helms Street, Newcomb, last Friday.
No one sustained injuries in the alleged carjacking.
Officers attempted to intercept the ute at Corio but it failed to stop.
They tracked the car towards Werribee before it turned towards Geelong with police cars in pursuit.
The car travelled along La Trobe Tce before reportedly speeding through central Geelong just before midday.
One witness saw several marked and unmarked police cars and a divvy van driving east along Ryrie St in pursuit, they told the Indy.
Police continued to chase the ute, which was driving erratically, before the occupants abandoned it at a shopping centre car park.
The occupants then left the shopping centre in a green Holden Commodore wagon and sped away, police alleged.
Police pursued the wagon to Monterey Drive, Waurn Ponds, where three people jumped out and allegedly attempted to carjack another car before fleeing on foot.
Officers arrested a man, a women and a teenage girl following a short chase on foot.
The green wagon sped off and police pursued it for about 30km towards Inverleigh, west of Geelong.
Police continued pursuing the green wagon, which eventually came to a stop in a farming paddock off the Hamilton Hwy near Inverleigh.
The driver dumped the car and ran before police caught and arrested him just after 1.15pm on Monday, following almost four hours in pursuit.
Two men, a woman and a teenage girl remained in custody on Monday afternoon and were assisting investigators with their enquiries, a Victoria Police spokesperson said.
“The investigation is ongoing.”
