Long list of charges over explosive find

Two Corio men face explosives and firearms charges following a police raid yesterday.

Detectives executed a warrant and firearm prohibition order compliance check at a Remington Street address about 11am.

They located and seized one firearm and homemade explosive materials during their search, police alleged.

Officers from the Bomb Response Unit attended the scene to assist and have since deemed the area safe.

Geelong Crime Investigation Unit detectives charged two men following the execution of the warrant.

A 53-year-old Corio man faces charges including possessing a firearm, possessing cartridge ammunition, possessing an explosive substance, manufacturing an explosive substance, cultivating a narcotic plant, and possessing cannabis.

Detectives charged a 29-year-old Corio man with being a prohibited person possessing a firearm and a silencer, possessing a firearm in contravention of a firearm prohibition order, possessing cartridge ammunition, possessing an explosive substance, manufacturing an explosive substance, cultivating a narcotic plant, possessing cannabis, and failing to comply with direction to assist.

The pair are due to appear before Geelong Magistrates’ Court today.
