Northern Bay College and Bell Park North Primary School will each receive a $30,000 grant as part of the state government’s Active Schools initiative.
The program aims to give every Victorian student the skills, confidence and motivation to stay active throughout their lives.
Since starting in 2020, the program has given out more than $25 million to more than 500 schools.
“These Active Schools grants will help local students at Northern Bay College and Bell Park North Primary thrive by delivering even more sports and activities throughout their day at school – in class, at recess and lunch time,” Member for Lara Ella George said.
“Through the Active Schools initiative, young people at these schools can find a sport or activity they love, and support an active and healthy lifestyle.”
In previous years, schools have used their Active Schools Grants to upskill PE teachers, purchase sports equipment, build outdoor learning spaces, make upgrades to playgrounds, install sensory play areas and implement programs such as bicycle education or dance.
“Every young Victorian deserves the chance to find their sport – whether that’s on the court, in the pool or on the bike track, these grants are opening doors to new opportunities,” Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence said.
The Active Schools program aims to find ways for kids to move more during the whole school day in class, at recess and lunch and even on the way to and from school.
