Rooke leads Dragons to huge win

Bell Park’s Hannah Rooke had an outstanding all-round A Grade game in round 10 of Geelong Cricket Association senior women’s competition.

Rooke took the incredible figures of five wickets for two runs with her crafty off-spin while teammate Daniella Galle took three wickets for seven runs in dismissing Lethbridge for 57.

Rooke then made an unbeaten 30 with captain Carly Mittermair (26 not out) with the Dragons getting runs in the sixth over without losing a wicket.

Young English import Izzy Storrar starred for Geelong City although East Belmont took the points.

Storrar made 65 from 77 balls in a classy knock, but Macy Lee (3/27) helped keep the total to 6/151.

Storrar then took 5/40, but a steadying knock by Rebecca McPoyle (46 not out from 52 deliveries) saw East Belmont home with three wickets and eight balls in hand.

A 40-ball 50 from Bianca Duff and a run-a-ball 48 from Milly Chapman steered North Geelong to a big total of 7/222 against South Barwon.

The score could have been bigger if not for the efforts of Amy Seddon, who took 2/16 from her six overs.

Seddon then made 22 for South Barwon, but Chelsea Reid (3/5 from five overs) and Jessica Woolston (2/8 from five) had their opposition all out for 77.

Barwon Heads remained in finals contention with a five-wicket win against St Joseph’s.

Ally Haase (41) and Caitlin Burnett (39) gave Joeys a positive start with a 70-run opening stand, but young guns Matilda Cole (2/17 from six overs) and Luca Bode (1/13 from six) applied the brakes and the Seagulls were set 126 for victory.

Bode then top scored with a patient and steadying 28 from 74 deliveries and skipper Jane Burch made 27 and the Heads won with 14 balls to spare.
