Alleged bank robber to face court

A man who allegedly robbed a Geelong West bank at gunpoint last month will face court in August after detectives arrested him on Saturday.

Police allege a man armed with a firearm threatened staff at the Bendigo Bank on Pakington Street about 3.30pm on April 30, before fleeing with a small amount of cash.

“No shots were fired, and no one was physically injured during the incident,’ a Victoria Police spokesperson said.

On Saturday afternoon, Armed Crime Squad detectives arrested a 47-year-old Corio man at Avalon Airport following their investigation into the alleged bank robbery.

The detectives interviewed the man before charging him with one count of armed robbery.

The Corio man was remanded in custody to appear at Geelong Magistrates Court on August 6.
