Barwon River peaks at 3.86 metres

Parts of Greater Geelong are still under a ‘watch and act’ direction from the SES as the Barwon, Moorabool and Leigh Rivers remain flooded.

South Geelong appears to have been the worst hit with the rowing sheds and Belmont Common suffering from Thursday’s deluge.

The Barwon River sat at 3.86 metres at 12.30pm today according to VicEmergency and had receded to 3.83 metres by 3pm.

The Barwon River at Geelong is expected to remain above the moderate flood level of 3.10 metres for the remainder of today and into Sunday.

The Moorabool River at Batesford Bridge measured 3.92 metres at 4pm just below the moderate flood level of 4 metres and was easing slowly.

It is likely to remain above the minor flood level of 2.70 metres for the remainder of today and into Sunday morning according to Emergency Victoria.

A number of roads remain closed including around South Geelong, Breakwater, Highton and Mount Duneed. Check traffic.vicroads.vic.gov.au for more information.

More than 50mm of rain was recorded at Breakwater weather station from Wednesday to Thursday evening.

Halfway through the month Geelong has recorded 81.2mm of rain compared to a historical average of 40.9mm for all of October.
