Fatal crash kills elderly man

An elderly Newtown man has died in hospital following a fatal crash in his home suburb earlier this month.

The man was driving along Prospect Rd, Newtown, about 3.10pm on January 3 when he lost control of his car, witnesses told investigators.

The car collided with two vehicles before leaving the road and crashing into a building, police said.

Paramedics took the 86-year-old driver to hospital with serious injuries.

He died in hospital this Wednesday, police said.

Police were continuing to investigate the crash, they said.

They urged any witnesses, or anyone with further information or dash cam footage to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au

The death brings Victoria’s road toll to 11 for 2020, up on seven the same time last year.
