West Gate delays as truck fire closes lanes

Commuters driving home to Geelong from Melbourne face delays after a truck fire on the West Gate Freeway, according to VicRoads.

The fire forced emergency services to close two lanes outbound after Williamstown Road, VicRoads said around 4.30pm.

“MFB crews have extinguished the blaze and are inspecting the vehicle. Transurban’s incident management crews are also attending and assisting with traffic management.

“Two lanes remain open with speed set at 40km/h and traffic queued back to the Bolte Bridge.”

VicRoads advised that Geelong Road through Footscray was “a good alternative” for motorists.

“Drivers getting onto the freeway from Millers Road will avoid the incident.

“This closure is under the control of emergency services. The lanes will re-opened when it’s safe to do so.

“Our signals team is tweaking signals on surrounding roads to keep traffic moving.
