Geelong has hosted a special Buy Recycled event to see how recycling can be used in infrastructure, landscaping, parks and gardens.
The Sustainability Victoria June 1 event included talks from 21 Western Victoria and Melbourne council workers, recycled product suppliers, and site tours at three Geelong locations using recycled materials.
The event was part of Sustainability Victoria’s Recycled First Local Government program and looked to empower councils to make confident decisions when buying recycled materials.
It also supports Victoria’s transition to a circular economy by local councils discussing buying and using more recycled materials in their municipality.
The day began at 9.15am with morning tea and networking at the City of Greater Geelong office on Mercer Street and concluded at 4.30pm after seeing the recycling sites.
The event received a good turnout, with the groups going to Rippleside’s Western Beach Boardwalk, North Geelong’s Bridges at Cowies Creek in Seagull Paddock and the City of Greater Geelong’s Anakie Organics Processing Facility.
Attendees included council employees in engineering, parks and gardens, landscaping, asset management, sustainability, procurement, waste and circular economy.
