A two-person kayak that washed up on Whites Beach in Torquay at 7am on December 11.

An empty vessel washed up at Whites Beach in Torquay this morning, which police believe could be linked to a capsizing last night.

“Police are searching for the owner of a kayak that was located at Whites Beach in Torquay this morning,” a police spokesperson said.

Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority staff discovered the unmanned, blue, “two-person kayak” and notified police about 7am, the spokesperson said.

Police are investigating if the discovery is linked to an earlier incident which saw paramedics treat two males in Torquay about 8pm last night.

The two males capsized in what they described as a canoe before receiving treatment.

“Police are wanting to confirm if the kayak belongs to these two males, believed to be in their early twenties,” the police spokesperson said.

They urged anyone who saw the kayak recently or has information about the owner to phone Torquay Police Station on 5264 3400.
