The Geelong community is acknowledging members across the region for their selfless work during this year’s King’s Birthday Honours.
Six people from Greater Geelong and the Bellarine received the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) on Sunday, June 8.
Three OAM recipients from Geelong included Roger Sykes, Barry Solomon and Bill McFarlane, for service to their communities.
Newtown vet Dr John (Jack) Ayerbe and anaesthetist Dr Stephen Bolsin were acknowledged for their medical and scientific work.
Barwon Heads’ Dr David Iser was also recognised for his service to medicine as a general practitioner, which included his work with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners as a supervisor and examiner.
The Member of the Order of Australia (AM) was presented to Torquay’s Brian Cook for service to Australian rules football, business and the community and Geelong’s Charles Corke for his work in intensive care medicine.
Australian governor-general Sam Mostyn said she was delighted to congratulate everyone recognised in The King’s Birthday 2025 Honours List.
“These honours recognise the selfless service, integrity, achievement, creativity, and care that flourish across our country,” she said.
“Every day, and all across the country, Australians are doing extraordinary things with passion, generosity, energy, and resolve.
“I see the values of care, kindness and respect in the many Australians who are honoured today, and in those who have been recognised throughout the fifty-year history of our Australian honours system.”
