Untether Nostalgia

A new exhibition showcasing sentimentality for the past and memories of a life gone by is now open in Geelong.

Untether Gallery launched the free curated group show Nostalgia during an opening and award night on August 7.

Gallery owner Jennifer Cromarty said the exhibition featured 86 art pieces, and that many of the works were a “window into an artist’s experience”.

“Artists were asked to respond to the theme nostalgia, which are often things that we reminisce about and remind us of memories of the past,” she said.

“What I’ve loved about Nostalgia is that there’s a lot of figurative arts of artists’ relatives or family members who have passed or memories they’ve had from childhood.

“We’ve got an incredible display of people thinking about the human experience and the people in their lives that have been really important to them, or objects that have meant a lot to them.

“We will also be celebrating one year of having Untether Gallery and just really exciting to be at this point and being able to offer others the opportunity to exhibit.”

Tarryn De Kock’s oil on canvas work ‘Home’ won the exhibition’s Best in Show, with Liz Flaherty’s oil on wood panel work ‘One last time’ coming in second place and Jessie Riches’ acrylic on board work ‘Jolly Chimp’ securing third place.

Visitors will also be able to vote on their favourite artwork, with the People’s Choice Award announced at the end of the exhibition, which will run until August 30.
