Assistance needed following firearms theft

Police are appealing for public assistance after four firearms were stolen from a rural property in Lara.

Western Region Crime Squad detectives were called to the property last month after it is believed that multiple unknown offenders broke into a work shed at about 3.20am on July 21.

Investigators allege that the offenders forced entry into the property, stealing four firearms, ammunition and several power tools, including chainsaws, whipper snippers and other gardening equipment.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have seen suspicious activity or a vehicle in the area, particularly around Windermere Road and Forest Road, around the time of the incident.

Detective Senior Constable Steve Robinson said police were keen to hear from anyone with dashcam footage of the roads between 2.30am and 4.30am.

“Any firearm or weapon in the wrong hands can pose a significant risk to the community,” he said.

“We believe this was a targeted burglary where multiple firearms, ammunition and tools were stolen.

“If you were driving in the area or live nearby and have dashcam or any other information, no matter how minor it may seem, we urge you to get in touch.”

There is currently no dashcam or CCTV footage at this stage, with police urging the public to share any information or footage with Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
