Three fighting for life after Mount Moriac car-truck crash

Three Chinese nationals are fighting for life after the car they were in crashed with a truck at Mount Moriac this morning.

Ambulance helicopters flew the 58-year-old male driver and a 35-year-old man to The Alfred hospital in a critical condition with head injuries.

Another ambulance helicopter flew a 34-year-old woman, also a Chinese national, to Royal Melbourne Hospital in a critical condition with head injuries.

Paramedics treated two other Chinese passengers, a 60-year-old woman and six-year-old boy, for head injuries and an ambulance took them to University Hospital Geelong in a serious condition.

The crash occurred at the intersection of Cape Otway Rd and Princes Hwy just after 9am, according to police.

Witnesses told police a red Toyota hatch was travelling north on Cape Otway Rd when the crash occurred.

The car collided with a Kenworth prime mover and semi-trailer travelling west on Princes Hwy at the intersection of both roads.

Police said the truck driver was uninjured and paramedics treated him for shock.

Police blocked the Colac-bound lanes of Princes Hwy as crews cleared the wreckage.

At 1.21pm the Department of Transport issued a statement saying the lanes had reopened.

“The Department of Transport thanks motorists for their patience and safe driving during this disruption,” the statement read.

Investigators had yet to determine “the exact circumstances” of the crash, police said.

They urged anyone who saw the incident or with information to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
