Two Powercor workers rescued a 98-year-old man from a blaze at a Hamlyn Heights home on Tuesday night, the electricity provider has confirmed.
Corio Fire Brigade crews rushed to the blaze just after 10pm and brought it under control by 10.15pm, according to a CFA spokesperson.
The two workers pulled the elderly man from the house after they noticed smoke coming from the property.
“The one male occupant was removed by a couple of tradesman,” the spokesperson said.
“He was suffering from inhalation and minor burns.”
Firefighters put out the blaze completely by 10.40pm and investigators were not treating the fire as suspicious, the spokesperson said.
“They’ve got a fire investigator there as we speak.”
Paramedics treated the man for minor burns he sustained in the fire, an Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said.
An ambulance took the elderly man to University Hospital Geelong in a stable condition.
The 98-year-old was recovering in University Hospital Geelong’s intensive care unit in a stable condition on Wednesday morning, a Barwon Health spokesperson said.
The man was due for transfer to another ward for recovery later in the day, the spokesperson said.
A Powercor spokesperson confirmed the two workers were employees at the company.
