Live site for Socceroos game

The City of Greater Geelong will stage a free live site at Rippleside Park for the Socceroos’ Round of 16 World Cup clash with Argentina on Sunday morning.

With excitement at fever pitch following Australia’s progression to the knockout stage of the showpiece tournament, the City has worked quickly to provide a family friendly venue for the community to gather and enjoy the game.

The site will open at 5.30am and feature a big screen showing SBS’ live broadcast of the match from Qatar, which is scheduled to begin at 6am.

All members of the community are welcome to attend and encouraged to bring their own food and non-alcoholic drinks, as well as folding chairs or picnic blankets.

Mayor Trent Sullivan said it was a great chance for the local community to support the Socceroos together.

“The Australian team has done our country proud with a pair of brilliant wins to reach the last 16 of the tournament,” Mayor Sullivan said.

“The Geelong community has been swept up in the excitement and is looking forward to Sunday morning.

“We’d love to see large groups of families and friends decked out in green and gold at Rippleside, cheering the Socceroos to an upset victory over Argentina.”

The City encourages all members of the community to celebrate safely so that everyone can enjoy the match.

In support of the Socceroos, the City will also light the catenary lights at the intersection of Moorabool and Malop Streets in green and gold on Saturday night.
