AN EIGHT-year-old Torquay girl led the town’s under-15 hockey team to victory in a nail biting win over St Ignatius on the weekend.
Puck Klassen, who was filling in for the Tornadoes after her own game, had never scored before dominating the field with a three-goal haul.
Club secretary Steve Currie said the 3-1 win was one of the clubs proudest moments.
“Not only did she hit her first goal, she went on to score a hat-trick in the team’s 3-1 win over the opposition.”
Puck’s heroics helped the bottom-of-the-table Tornadoes earn their first win of the season.
Coach Andrew Crowley said the Torquay club, playing in the Geelong Hockey Association, was in its second season after forming in 2010.
He said Puck’s determination had inspired the 20-member club.
“It was very exciting seeing Puck get into position to score those goals on the day. She only just started playing this year and to watch her skills develop is amazing,” he said.
“As a coach you see special moments in your time. I’ve been involved in hockey for 40 years and this was one of them.”
