Hawkins, Motlop likely against Richmond

Geelong coach Chris Scott all but guaranteed power forward Tom Hawkins would not be hampered by the knee knock he received against Port Adelaide on Sunday.

“He seems to be okay. It’s not guaranteed at the moment but all the indications are really good.

“He got a little bit of a knock to that knee and it looked a bit awkward so no question we were worried, but all the indications are that he’ll be fine for this week.”

Ruckman Dawson Simpson was a late withdrawal after rolling his ankle during the Cats’ final training session.

“It’s more positive with Dawson than we initially thought. He’s looking like he’s a legitimate chance for this week.

“(Andrew) Mackie is in the same boat. We won’t be in a position to guarantee that Mackie will play until the day before the game.

“Steven Motlop played two games in the VFL and he would be likely this week. To give him another two weeks would be ridiculous conservatism. He is well and truly in the frame this week.”
