Julie in the groove with hopes of cleaning up

JULIE Morris admits she’s no domestic goddess but the Torquay mother of two is on her way to creating an innovative cleaning device.
Mrs Morris has been named as a finalist in a national competition offering wannabe entrepreneurs a chance to have their inventions manufactured and sold online.
Ms Morris’s Groove Wizard has been short-listed from hundreds of entries for the Project Inventor initiative’s final 10 after a national search for new products.
She said her design for a hand-held pole with a thin brush and a foam scrubber on either end could help solve the most frustrating household cleaning conundrum.
“I thought of the invention years ago but didn’t know how to get it off the ground. A friend told me about the competition and it just fell into place.
“I thought it was a great but didn’t realise so many others would, too.”
Mrs Morris said years of tirelessly scrubbing at mould and grime in hard-to-reach places inspired her concept.
“I grew more and more frustrated every time I had to clean the shower, the window tracks, sliding door tracks, all those areas around the house that are hard to get at. Nothing I ever found could do it well.
“I’d end up getting a screwdriver and wrapping a cloth around the end of it or grabbing a toothbrush.
“My invention would make cleaning so much easier.”
Other short listed entries included a wind-powered mobile phone charger for motorcycles, a device for disposing of dog droppings and a doona with “feet-warming properties”.
