Janina Lear has been a market-lover her whole life, from childhood memories searching for fresh produce at Red Hill to her European adventures.
She established Piccadilly Market 10 years ago after moving to Newtown.
“I didn’t see anything in Geelong when I moved here,” she says.
The market offers artisnal homewares, clothing, candles, jewellery, gourmet foods and more.
“I have far more applications then I have spots for stalls,” Janina says.
This year she’s giving three local musicians and a young entrepreneur a chance to show off their talents.
“I’m paying them but they’re also busking. I’m offering a half-price stall to a young entrepreneur.”
Janina’s 12-year-old twins have used the market to sell their Glitter Queen wares.
“They’ve got big opportunities because their mum owns this business,” Janina laughs.
“I just thought I could offer this opportunity to some kids that don’t have that platform.“
Piccadilly Market was a finalist in the categories for Tourism & Hospitality and Clever & Sustainable Business at the 2018 Geelong Business Excellence Awards after also reaching the finals in 2017.
