CHILDREN can ride a giant bee or discover what lies beneath their garden pavers at a new exhibition in Geelong’s National Wool Museum, according its director.
Gordon Johnston said Amazing Backyard Adventures was an educational experience exploring the workings of everything from backyard creatures to blades of grass.
“The whole family can come along and there’s something there for them to do,” Johnston said.
The exhibition features 16 interactive science experiences covering plants, animals, insects and the interactions between creatures as well as the physics behind play equipment and “typical tinkering” in a garden shed.
Johnston said growing interest in the museum’s interactive exhibitions had left him “pleasantly surprised”.
“A similar exhibition we had from Melbourne Museum had 17,000 visitors in just 10 weeks, all predominantly from the local Geelong area. It showed us there’s a very viable audience for these exhibitions in Geelong, which is exciting for everyone.”
The museum will host Amazing Backyard Adventures until February 26.
