Pathways beyond school

Creating positive futures is the key message being given to students at Newcomb Secondary College as they embark on their new P-TECH (Pathways in Technology) Program starting in 2017.
Supported by both the Federal Government and the Skilling Australia Foundation, the P-TECH program, launched at the beginning of 2016, is only one of two programs offered in Australia.
It is an innovative education model that will give students the opportunity to study their VCE/VCAL subjects while at the same time study an industry supported certificate in pathways such as health, information technology and business/finance.
Newly formed partnerships with Barwon Health, Bendigo Bank, GMHBA, Opteon Property Group and Tribal Campus will provide students with the opportunity to engage with the real world of work and have a better understanding of their choice for a post school pathway.
This collaboration between local industry representatives and the staff at Newcomb Secondary College will enhance the connection between student learning and the skills employers need for jobs of the future – jobs that may not exist today!
Recently students had the opportunity to visit all five industry partners to see these organisations in full operation.
Core Skills for Work will continue to be included in the curriculum and as the year progresses each student involved in the P-TECH program will be paired with an industry mentor to work with.
Graduates from the P-TECH program will have so many more career options as Newcomb Secondary College continues to break new ground with this program.
Newcomb Secondary College is at 81-85 Bellarine Highway, Newcomb.
