Teesdale will host a lantern parade this weekend to mark the culmination of a two-year project to develop a unique community meeting place.
The town, north-west of Geelong, has run a series of workshops in the lead up to Saturday night’s parade to celebrate the official opening of Turtle Pavilion.
The pavilion features a turtle shell-design roof, a floor depicting Native Hut Creek and sound instruments shaped like a turtle’s head and tail at either end of the building.
A spokesperson for the project said work began after Scottish architect Stewart Seaton, who has a business in Portugal and a house in Teesdale, developed a concept image for a meeting place on the bank of Native Hut Creek. Other residents, artists and authorities came on board after Mr Seaton produced his concept image.
The parade will begin at 5.30pm at the town’s primary school before reaching the pavilion at Turtle Bend for free entertainment and activities.
