Heads to rock for fire victims

Jessica Benton
The region’s surfers and aspiring musicians will band together next weekend to support victims of Victoria’s worst bushfires.
Bands and community members from the Bellarine Peninsula, Surf Coast, Geelong and Melbourne have organised Fight Fire with Rock, a day of music at Barwon Heads Hotel.
Organisers Trent Stephens and Mitch Knapton said all proceeds would go to victims of the Black Saturday bushfires.
“We felt compelled to help out and thought ‘Why not a rock gig, that’s what we do best’,” Mr Knapton said.
“We aim to raise over $20,000 and hope the community will come together. We’re organising to give the money to the victims directly.
“This is an opportunity for people living in Geelong to rock out and show their support for the victims of the bushfires.”
Mr Stephens said organisers had selected a “good array of music genres” including rock, punk, DJs and acoustic artists.
“The plan is to have something for everyone and having the two stages gives everyone choice throughout the day.”
Mr Stephens said all performers would appear for free.
They included Chris Wilson, Fireballs, The Cants, The Go Set, Bored, Mock Turkey, Revolver and Son, Murder Rats and Modern Legion along with a host of other acts.
Mr Stephens said tickets would cost $30 on the door, with shuttle buses operating to and from Geelong.
Fight Fire with Rock kicks off at 2pm on Saturday, February 28.
