Cats chase Frawley

Geelong is interested in Melbourne free agent James Frawley, according to website AFL.com.au.

Frawley becomes a free agent next year and has already indicated to the Demons he will consider offers before making a decision on his playing future.

Geelong is believed to be keen on Frawley to add to its ageing defence while also being flexible enough to play forward, in a similar vein to Cats swingman Harry Taylor.

Key Cats defenders Tom Lonergan, Andrew Mackie, Jared Rivers and Corey Enright will all be 30 soon with Harry Taylor not far behind at 28.

Frawley, 26, has been a surprise up forward for Melbourne this season, snaring 11 goals.

Geelong already has a precedent in Rivers who has slotted in well after the retirement of champion backman Matthew Scarlett.

The lure of playing finals could add to Frawley’s interest in an offer from Geelong. He is yet to play finals in his eight seasons at Melbourne.

Unrestricted free agents can accept an offer from any club without their home club having the option of matching the offer.

Melbourne has seen significant improvement under new coach Paul Roos but that arrangement only lasts until the end of 2016.

Frawley has previously said he was in no hurry to make a decision.

“I’m contracted until the end of the year and I’m not going to make any rash decisions,” he told AFL.com.au.

“I want to make sure the club is heading in the right direction. You always want to win and play finals.”
