A culture of care

Category: Large Business 31-plus Employees
Winner: St John of God Geelong Hospital

St John of God Geelong Hospital (SJGGH) is a leading health care provider to the communities of greater Geelong and south western Victoria.
The hospital’s mission guides it to deliver a comprehensive range of acute, rehabilitation and community-based services responding to unmet need in the region while achieving outcomes recognised for high quality and exceptional care.
SJGGH considers the ability to deliver on its aspiration as “a true advantage and a tangible point of difference” from its competitors.
The hospital has been operating continuously on its Myers Street site for over 105 years. With the support of the community, SJGGH is now Australia’s largest regional not-for-profit private hospital.
The hospital and its staff provide compassionate and holistic care while striving to provide patients and their families with a reason to hope.
The SJGGH culture fosters excellence through a service ethos program and supports training and research to enhance the patient experience.
During 2016 the hospital cared for over 40,000 patients and achieved revenue increases of 7.3 per cent on the previous year.
As a not-for-profit organisation, SJGGH returns surpluses to the community by updating and expanding its facilities and technology and innovating by establishing new services.
Additionally, the hospital contributes two per cent of revenue to support social justice initiatives in youth homelessness, drug and alcohol and post-natal depression services.
The hospital employs and invests in over 1000 employees “care-givers” to support the health and well-being of their community.
SJGGH is grateful for the opportunity to contribute to Geelong’s transformation while being at the forefront of delivering exceptional care.
