Have fun on Tim’s Segway tours

Tim Carr’s Segway tours through the Leura Park Estate are one of a kind in Geelong, he says.
Tim has been cruising through the estate with his fleet of all-terrain Segways for the past 12 months.
“Leura Park has a huge amount of space and beautiful scenery which just lends itself to the tour.”
Tim, 62 and a retired schoolteacher, learnt to ride the Segway just before starting the business.
“Anyone can do it – they all pick it up within five minutes of being on the Segway,” he says.
“I’ve had people in their seventies doing it and even an 11-year-old.”
The only limits are the vehicle’s 35kg and 115kg weight limits, he says.
The former teacher of 30-plus years says his brother inspired him to create Segway Geelong after enjoying similar tours in New Zealand.
“He figured they hadn’t been happening much in Victoria,” Tim says.
The business is indeed one of just a few of its kind in Victoria, he says.
For Tim, the best part of the tour is the chance to learn a new skill “on a vehicle that’s not commonly available”.
“The machine is designed to balance you – they’re pretty cool,” he says
People can get out in the fresh air and cruise around without great stress.”
Tim says the tour is a great opportunity for school holiday fun.
“Prior to this I’ve focused mainly on adults, but the kids I’ve had have actually been the most skilled,” he says.
Parents can have a glass of wine and lunch (from Thursday to Sunday when the cellar door is open).
However, he is keen to get parents involved and is offering discount rates for them to ride with their children.
Tim says he’s looking to expand his tour to Eastern Beach and has been meeting VicRoads and Geelong Council to make this a reality.
“They’ll be going by Christmas,” Tim added.
