Frugal Friday: Shed houses bargains

ON MY usual travels, which I call ‘mooching’ around the region, I came across a rather large shed.
Not the type you might find full of tools at the end of your garden, but a huge shop in a huge shed.
In the semi-light-industrial part of South Geelong, alongside the railway, I discovered The Big Shed.
Among the bargain-priced furniture and ornaments, some new and some second-hand, I found the most gorgeous black-and-cream-coloured outdoor setting for just $239.
It featured cast-aluminium construction with tiles on the table top and the chair’s seats.
Then I discovered The Big Shed was offering 20 per cent off usual prices, so the setting was now only $189.
What a perfect purchase for chats over afternoon tea while, say, watching the kids play in the garden during warm summer days and evenings.
Something that also caught my eye was a simple rustic-looking vase, filled with artificial lavender. Of course, if you have lovely-smelling lavender growing in your garden you could always add the real thing. Totally up to you.
However, a benefit of a small vase of artificial flowers, which some of you may like, is that it needs no maintenance, other than dusting, I suppose.
The vase was on sale in another part of the shop for $49, so I popped it on the table top and it really worked well, adding those small final touches to the garden decor aesthetic.
Okay, so with cricket season here, I also had fans who like to watch it on telly in mind.
You want to feel comfy and hydrated during those long periods on the couch.
You also might want to lessen those regular trips back and forth to the fridge for cold beers or soft drinks, which disrupt your viewing. After all, you don’t want to miss a big six!
I found a huge variety of sofas but the one that really caught my eye was a recliner with built-in drink-holders to store your thirst-quenchers.
You’ll still have to get up for the loo, mind you! Ha, ha!
The second-hand three-piece theatre suite, in a brown suede-type fabric, was only $599 after another big discount off its usual price.

Just to mention, being a recliner sofa they normally sell for a lot more than the original price new.

I also found lots of bar and kitchen stools, too, in a variety of colours to work with any colour scheme. My favourite was just $15.

Have fun finding things in The Big Shed.
